Meet the kind of young artist you will be helping

Adam Walker was only seven when, like many children, he began playing recorder in school. Adam’s parents were avid lovers of their local car boot sale in Retford and one week brought him home a mini plastic Flute.

It was then Adam had decided this was his calling. Luckily at school, a friend's mother lent him a flute and he taught himself the ropes.

From there, things happened very quickly.

Adam played for his teacher, who was a music enthusiast, who immediately got in-touch with a local ABRSM examiner who suggested he apply for Chetham’s Music School.

A few months later, Adam had left home and was studying music full-time.

Fortunately, YCAT Identified, nurtured and supported Adam’s career when he needed it most.

You’ll be pleased to hear that since his plastic flute, Adam was appointed principal flute of the London Symphony Orchestra at the age of 21 and has received the Outstanding Young Artist Award at MIDEM Classique in Cannes.

He is now at the forefront of a new generation of wind soloists.

Many young artists we see are like Adam: talented, full of potential but struggling to get their lucky break and the support they need. Adam was fortunate to find the solution in YCAT.

Every gift counts. If you could give a one off donation of £5, £10 or more - you can give more artists like Adam the support they need to flourish.
