Role Overview 

This position offers an experienced fundraiser an opportunity to play a strategic role as we shape and prepare the launch of a new strategy to widen our impact on a national, and international scale. 2024 marks the beginning of the Trust’s 40th Anniversary, making it an exciting time to join the charity as we celebrate our history and look towards the next 40 years. 

Working within a small team, the Development Manager will take the strategic lead on all income generation with an aim to to grow and maximise fundraising opportunities.

YCAT’s primary income sources are from Individual Giving and Major Donors, alongside Trusts and Foundations. The Development Manager will strengthen and build on this programme whilst developing relationships and develop other sources of income (ie. Corporate, Legacy and Events). 

Main tasks undertaken by the post-holder:

  • Work closely with the CEO to develop and drive forward an ambitious and sustainable Fundraising Strategy, underpinning YCAT’s business plan and meeting annual income targets (c.£500,000 across all income streams).

  • Line Management of a part-time Grants Writer.

  • Nurture relationships with existing donors and develop a strong pipeline of prospective supporters. 

  • Manage and develop the YCAT Board’s involvement in new fundraising initiatives, especially connecting with new individual donors.

  • Ensure the highest level of stewardship amongst all existing YCAT funders is maintained with a view to encouraging the renewal of funding where possible and increasing investment and engagement.

  • Lead on the development of the Major Giving programme, managing and cultivating a personal portfolio of high-net-worth-individual relationships and corporates. 

  • Develop the use of our database (Salesforce) as a comprehensive reporting tool. 

  • Deliver an annual programme of fundraising events to both generate increased giving income and generate new prospects.

  • Deliver YCAT’s Trust and Foundation strategy, overseeing and managing the writing and submission of applications with the Grant Manager.

  • Develop a comprehensive prospect pipeline for grant-giving organisations, analysing funding criteria to align YCAT’s projects with the most appropriate funders and prospects.

  • Maximise Gift Aid revenue, overseeing its promotion and efficient, timely administration.

  • Work with the General/Communications Manager in ensuring a prominent and consistent presence for the case for support across all messaging and developing high quality, tailored fundraising materials.

  • Work with the CEO and General Manager to develop and deliver an effective legacy fundraising programme, including proactive recruitment and communications amongst existing and prospective legators. 

  • Liaise with the Finance Manager on appropriate financial data ensuring robust communication, budgeting and reconciliation. 

  • Report to the CEO and Board of Trustees on all fundraising activities. 

  • Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of YCAT’s broad range of activity to communicate effectively with donors. 

  • Maintain close sector relationships and knowledge, maintaining awareness of best practice.
