BBC Radio 3 has announced the latest artists to join its prestigious New Generation talent development programme. As the scheme marks its 25th anniversary, joint YCAT-CAG Artist, Hana Chang (violin), and YCAT-Music Masters Robey Artist, Sterling Elliott (cello) are listed amongst the incredible artists who will join from September 2024.

Launched in Autumn 1999, the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme supports some of the world’s most promising young instrumentalists, singers and ensembles at the start of their international careers through a two-year programme of recording and concert opportunities.

Appearances from New Generation Artists (NGAs) include recitals at the University of Birmingham as part of the Barber Institute’s lunchtime series next season, a weekend of special programming at Snape Maltings in Suffolk, a day of performances by distinguished alumni at the Oxford International Song Festival, plus a series at LSO St Luke’s in London and at St George’s Bristol.

Besides the special performance opportunities, the New Generation Artists regularly appear at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues and festivals, including the Norfolk and Norwich and Cheltenham festivals, the BBC Proms, and Wigmore Hall in London, as well as with the BBC orchestras and with partner ensemble The Hallé. Regular broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 make sure that the rising stars on the New Generation Artists scheme are heard by listeners all over the UK, and across Europe through the European Broadcasting Union.

Emma Bloxham, BBC Radio 3 Commissioning Editor, live music says:

“It has been 25 years since Radio 3 started supporting the development of outstanding young artists with a dedicated scheme. Many of the NGAs have gone on to become some of the biggest names in classical music, and I’m sure audiences will share in the excitement as we celebrate this milestone year in the scheme’s history, continuing to expand the NGA family and strengthening our connections with partners across the UK. I really look forward to our collaboration with venues all over the country, providing a springboard for these young artists at such a crucial moment in their careers through performance opportunities and broadcasts to millions of listeners at home.”
