Whether you are starting out in your career, reaching a crossroads, or in need of a pit stop, 21cMusician career coaching is here to help you plan your next steps. This session provides a supportive space to look afresh at opportunities, renew your focus and motivation, and build confidence. We will think together about some of the decisions and challenges that musicians face, and explore new approaches to defining, questioning and achieving your career goals.

Marion Friend MBE

Having begun her career after Cambridge University as a teacher and freelance musician, Marion held senior management positions in prestigious organisations for over twenty-five years, including as Director of Junior Trinity at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and at Wigmore Hall, BBC Television Music and Arts and Philharmonia Orchestra. She is an artistic and quality assessor for Arts Council England. This range of knowledge and experience informs her work as a coach, mentor, facilitator and consultant. Individual clients range from students to chief executives, teachers, administrators, performers and composers. ABOUT YCAT CAREER COACHING

  • YCAT coaching sessions provide a unique opportunity for you to explore a range of ideas, skills, and concerns relevant to life as a 21cMusician.

  • Small groups to encourage focused discussion within a friendly and supportive environment. 

  • Sessions are designed for classical musicians between the ages of 21 and 35. 

  • Sessions are led by one of our affiliated coaches, who have a broad range of experience and expertise, and in-depth understanding of the music industry. 

  • Every session is different in terms of its focus, group capacity, coach and participants, and you may only apply for one session at a time.

  • Sessions are free and currently held over Zoom. 

HOW TO APPLY

To apply, please complete an enquiry form. You will be asked to provide:

  • A brief outline of education/career to date
  • In your own words, an issue or question that you would like to explore and think about in the session. Be honest and direct in this brief submission (max 150 words).

We will contact you one week before the session to confirm your place, and with further information. Please note that we have limited capacity for each session to best allow for interaction and reflection. Where needed, we will prioritise attendees whose submissions demonstrate relevant concerns/interests/career stage.
