About Rhodes Piano Trio

Michael Gurevich / violin
David Edmonds / cello
Robert Thompson / piano

Rhodes Piano Trio Selected for representation by YCAT in 2010, the Rhodes Piano Trio was formed in 2003 at the Royal Northern College of Music under the guidance of the late Dr. Christopher Rowland. The Trio has already completed two tours of Scotland as Tunnell Trust Award winners and in 2008 won the Elias Fawcett Award in the Royal Over-Seas League Ensemble Finals. This season's engagements include recitals at the Purcell Room, Bridgewater Hall, Jacqueline du Pré Music Building (Oxford) and Wigmore Hall.

During their studies at the RNCM the Trio won all the chamber music prizes. They have been coached by the Florestan Trio and the Ulysses Ensemble as part of the Britten-Pears Young Artists Programme and in 2004 were awarded a major scholarship to study with Andre Emelianoff at the Bowdoin International Music Festival in the USA. The Trio has also been taught by Alasdair Tait, Ian Brown, Carole Presland and Jeremy Young and participated in classes with Charles Rosen, Alexander Melnikov, Gabor Takács-Nagy, members of the Chilingirian and Endellion String Quartets and the Gould Piano Trio.

Over the last four years the Trio has performed widely at venues and festivals across the UK, including a recital as part of the Halifax Young Artist series, and a residency at the Lake District Summer Music Festival. Between 2005-2009 they took part in the RNCM's ChamberFests, in 2006 performing the Boris Tchaikovsky Trio to critical acclaim. Further afield they have given concerts in the USA, Lithuania and The Netherlands.

All three members of the Rhodes Piano Trio have enjoyed great success individually. Prior to winning scholarships to the RNCM, Robert Thompson and David Edmonds studied at Chethams School and Michael Gurevich with Jan Repko at the Amsterdam Conservatoire Young Talent Class. Over the last year Robert has completed his Masters degree with Peter Frankl at Yale University in the USA, David Edmonds has continued his studies with Gregor Horsch at the Hochschule in Dusseldorf and Michael Gurevich was appointed a Leverhulme Junior Fellow in violin and viola under the mentorship of Ivry Gitlis.
