About Adrian Ward

Adrian Ward‘Ward’s Ottavio was a revelation, scarcely relying on gesture or expression, he simply uncovered the great wells of feeling that Mozart‘s music gifts to the character.’

Adrian Ward trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, both as an undergraduate and on the opera course, studying with Rudolf Piernay and Adrian Thompson. He graduated in 2008 with distinction and in the same year won the Royal Over-Seas League vocal section prize. In 2007 he was selected for representation by Young Concert Artists Trust (YCAT) in London. Adrian is currently an Independent Opera Fellowship Award holder and studies with Paul Farrington.

On graduating Adrian immediately joined Scottish Opera covering the role of Tonik in their production of Smetana‘s The Two Widows. He went on to sing the solo role of Autumn in Glyndebourne Festival Opera’s new production of Purcell's The Fairy Queen conducted by William Christie and covered the role of The Sailor in Tristan und Isolde. This autumn he joins Glyndebourne Touring Opera covering the role of Ferrando (Cosi fan tutte) and in 2010 returns to Scottish Opera.

Over the last year Adrian has given recitals at Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, King‘s Place, Barber Institute Birmingham and the Chester and Brighton Festivals. His concert work has included appearances as soloist with the Aachen Symphony Orchestra at the Theatre Royale de la Monnaie in Brussels, Haydn’s Nelson Mass with the London Mozart Players at Cadogan Hall and Handel with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Manchester Camerata. Future plans include Handel's Solomon at Cadogan Hall and a return visit to Wigmore Hall.

During his studies at the Guildhall Adrian‘s roles included Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Horace (Gounod’s La Columbe) and The Brazilian (Offenbach's La vie parisienne). In 2007 he sung Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at The Sage, Gateshead for Samling Opera directed by Sir Thomas Allen.

An experienced soloist he has appeared at major venues including the Royal Albert Hall with Sir David Willcocks, The Anvil (A Child of our Time), Barbican Hall, Snape Maltings, St John‘s Smith Square, Cadogan Hall, Purcell Room and sung for the Songmakers’ Almanac, Schubert Institute (Austria) and the Steans Institute at the Ravinia Festival (Chicago).
